Computer Virus  Spyware/Adware/Trojans
Developed by a single person or group of people. Developed by Corporations.
Non commercial purpose. Purely commercial purpose.
Typically Harmful (like deleting files, formatting disk etc). Makes computer slow (eats computer resource like memory, CPU and network bandwidth) .
Doesn't steal user information. Steals user data, displays advertisement pop-ups, hijacking user etc.
Typically spreads through disk media, email and by exploiting vulnerability in software. Spreads during internet browsing, instant messaging or bundled with third party software's
No. Mostly designed, developed and tested by a single person. Highly Engineered software (went through design, development and QA phase )
Typically a single executable file. Packaged software with installer, updater and sometimes un-installer.
Doesn't update itself ( In some cases viruses are polymorphic in computer memory). Typically spyware/adware comes with client updater which updates the spyware software regularly. This feature makes hard to remove by antispyware software's.

8. What is antispyware?

Computer software tool which scans and removes malicious programs, data files and registry settings  from your computer.

9. I have a Antivirus software. Do I need antispyware?

Yes. Antivirus software is designed to remove computer viruses only.  You need antispyware software to remove spyware/adwares.

10. I don't connect my computer to Internet at all. Do I still get spyware/adware on my computer?

Mostly No. In some cases spyware/adware software could be bundled with other free software CDs.

11. How does spyware/adware get into my computer?

Mostly when you visit a website which hosts adware/spyware programs either directly or indirectly though advertisement networks. Also during free music/movies download, instant messaging etc. Sometimes user will be asked to accept license terms.  Here are some of the major adware's installation prompt screen.

12. What is quarantine?

Quarantine feature of the scanner stops running malicious program and moves file to a different folder called \quarantine.

13. How quarantine feature works?

When you decide to "Quarantine" malicious files, GarbageClean moves the malicious file to quarantine folder C:\quarantine or D:\quarantine. So malicious files are moved to different location but not deleted from your system. After quarantine, spyware won't be active and it will be disabled.

14. When do I use quarantine feature?

If you do want to keep spyware/adware software's on the system in disabled state.

15. Can I quarantine registry keys?

No.

16. I can't download definitions. What to do now?

Downloading definitions could fail due to proxy server not configured properly. If you are using proxy server to connect to internet then you need to make sure proxy server is configured in the Windows Control Panel's Internet Options. Here is a screen shot of proxy configuration screen.

17. I ran GarbageClean but pop-ups are still coming. What to do now?

It is most likely that some of the memory resident spyware programs are not deleted successfully. In this case you must re-start windows in "Safemode with networking" (by pressing key F8 during windows start-up) and re-scan the system using GarbageClean. If the problem still persists then please contact our support here and provide us with detailed information.

18. What is Windows Safe mode?

In Safe mode Windows will not load start-up programs and also Windows loads only minimal drivers. So in safe mode spyware/adware programs can't get started during Windows startup even though they are registered in the start-up locations like Run registry key, Win.ini and System.ini etc.

19. What is Windows Safemode with networking?

In Safemode with networking option, Windows loads network protocol drivers and the computer is able to connect to internet.

20. How can I switch my computer to safe mode?

Pressing key F8 repeatedly during windows startup and select "Safemode with networking" option from screen. For more info visit http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315222
